IS THE SCHOOL SYSTEM CURBING INDIVIDUAL TALENTS?
last afternoon when I was in school and the chapter Albert Einstein at school was going on, a discussion started in the classroom on this topic which is one of the questions in book also.I thought it as a very nice topic and decided to write on it. I believe that this topic should be presented as a topic in debate .Now have a look on my views....
FOR THE MOTION (IN FAVOUR)
Each and every child has some unique qualities which makes them apart from the crowd and the need to believe in this idea has become essential in the present generation.
Nowdays in many schools there is a trend going on since decades to focus on curricular activities, academics and studies more than the co - curricular activities be it sports, art, music, dance or any thing else. The children should be given full freedom to chose, to be independent in their choice.
Maybe a student who is excellent in studies may not be good in other activities even it may be that he is not a gentlemen having etiquettes on the other side perhaps a student is brilliant in music or sports but is not well in studies. The school system dosen't provides a platform for the progress of those who are good in other fields except studies.
I definetly believe that basic education is required for everyone. everyone should have communication skills and know the important facts of science, calculation of maths and a bit general knowledge but to compel a student to focus on studies and leave the fields behind in which they are exellent is not at all the right decision. even the constitution of our country states that every citizen has six fundamental rights which include the
right to freedom of expression but in our indian society the voice of students are mere whispers in the classrooms among peers and nothing more than it.
The school system is curbing the individual talents, there is the need to make the young talents aware of their capacities in different fields and let them go forward.Everything that we learn in the classroom is not used in our practical life.
If anyone believes that by leaving studies behind one can't achieve then see the examples from the past Albert Einstein , the great physicist didn't like history but was genius in maths and was interested in geology, science but while pursuing diploma he have to study history. Many sportspersons and artists, social activists, were not at all good in studies but are marvellous in their field. Its not studies that make a person perfect but its one's personality and character.
We say a school is a temple of knowledge, it a holy place for the children because they learn there....but let me remind you that learning dosen't means only the facts and figures of science or social science it also includes the moral values, art and even learning music is also knowledge.
There is definetly the need to recognise the ignited minds and give them freedom to chose, to not be in stress but live happily in present and be prepared for the future.
